Ask the children what they recall about the story of Trombone Shorty.
After reviewing ask the children to turn to the 6th page in their packet. Use the picture below to complete the Making Observations activity. Students DO NOT need to write about what they observe but should turn and talk about what they see an they should be prepared to share out. Use the 5 minute timer guide their use of turn and talk time. |

Next, ask the students to think of their own character traits. They can turn and talk with a partner to help each other out. Use the 5 minute timer for this exercise.
Ask the students to compare themselves to Trombone Shorty. What do they have In common? What Is different about them? Students should turn to the last page of the packet and on the Venn diagram, under the heading "TROMBONE SHORTY" they should list characteristics that are specifically his, under the heading "YOU" they should list characteristics that are specifically their own, and in the center whaere it says "BOTH" they should list characteristics that they have in common. |
