Who is Jimmy Buffett?

Use the arrows in the upper right hand corner to go through the slide deck.  Read the information at the bottom of each picture before you move to the next slide.

The Jolly Mon is a song that was written by Jimmy Buffet in 1985 after sailing through the Caribbean with his daughter Savannah Jane Buffett.

Watch and Listen to the Story "The Jolly Mon"

Remember that when we listen we use our ears, we use our eyes, we do NOT use our mouths, and usually we will NOT use our bodies.

Later, in 1988, the song was turned into a picture book with illustrations that would help readers to see the magic of the song.  There is also a good chance that the writers of the Pirates of the Caribbean Movies were inspired to name the boat that Jack Sparrow uses in the beginning of the movie "The Curse of the Black Pearl" the Jolly Mon because of this song and book.

Do you still have some time?  Here is a tutorial to do "The Wellerman" dance.  If you are interested in learning this dance you can move to the front carpet.  If learning the dance does not interest you please move to the back carpet.  You will need to sit silently while the other children do the activity.  I HIGHLY suggest that you give it a try!

Kindergarten/Grade 1

Stand up in your square and dance along with this Hello video.  Please make sure to stay in your square!
Do you remember that Presto mans FAST and LARGO means slow?  Watch this video to remind yourself.
Watch the video and when they sing about PRESTO run as fast as you can in your own carpet spot.  You may not run around the room.  When they sing about LARGO run in your own square as slowly as you can.  Remember...you are boys and girls and not turtles and bunnies!  When the bunny falls to the floor you should not.  All boys and girls must stay on their feet!
Take your seats and learn about the fastest and slowest animals on the planet!
Stand up in your own square and have fun with this Presto, Largo, and Freeze game!  remember to stay in your spots and don't pop someone's bubble!

If you still have time at the end of class you can go back and do the Rabbit and Tortise Presto and Largo video.
