Mandalas

Grades 5, 4, 3

Sometimes after working so hard towards a goal we need to sit back, take a quick break, and recharge.  One way we can do this is to take a day and turn our brains around 180 degrees!  Here is a fun activitiy that can give our brains a rest...

CREATING MANDALAS

Making a Mandala is a great way to focus and recharge your brain...

MAKING MANDALAS

For many centuries Mandalas have been used for focus and meditation.  The word MANDALA comes from the Sanskrit language (a very old language from India) and it means "circle".  To make a mandala of your own follow these directions:

1. Use the circle template (PDF below) or create a circle on a piece of paper.  You can also use a plain paper plate.
2. Divide the circle into eight sections (like a pizza)
3. Starting from the middle create a design that will continue to get bigger as you move outwards in the circle.  Use the video below to give you some different ideas.  You can make your design detailed or not depending on what you want to create.  Experiment with different shapes and lines.
4. Think about adding color to your design when you are finished

Need some inspiration...play this video as you create your mandala.
The music is beautiful and VERY relaxing!
(Necesito algo de inspiración ... reproduce este video mientras creas tu mandala.
¡La música es hermosa y MUY relajante!)

Grades K, 1 and 2

First we can get our bodies moving!

Now let's get our bodies quiet...

Mandalas are a way that people can refocus their minds and relax.  Pick a Mandala to color and listen to the beautiful and relaxing music above.  You may want to watch as the Mandalas in the video change.  This is a QUIET activity.  You should be talking in a "Spy Talk" voice while you color.

Use the pre-printed mandalas for these students to color.
